Leh to Kharu - Riding at 13500 feet

citybycycle

Kharu - A small town 40 kms from Leh is nice riding destination for cyclists

With a population of around 200, Kharu is a small town and is about 40 kms from Leh. It is the junction for three main roads between Pangong Tso lake , Tso Moriri lake and to Manali.

Both motor bikers and cyclists stop here for rest and food after covering long distances. There are few general stores and restaurants for travelers. Roads leading to Kharu are well maintained and perfect for riding. The elevation is definitely a challenge from Leh (11500 feet) to Kharu (13500 feet). This ride definitely puts your lungs to test due to change in elevation.
